Sail-In Cinema, the world’s first two-sided floating movie experience, is presenting three nights of classic Steven Spielberg flicks at this year’s event: “Jaws,” “Jurassic Park,” and “E.T.”
Starting tonight and running through until August 16th, Canada’s Sugar Beach is transformed into Toronto’s largest outdoor theatre each night as the movies are presented under the open skies on a two-sided screen set atop a barge in Toronto Harbour. Attendees can watch the movies for free from Sugar Beach or Lake Ontario, either on land or by docking their boat.
This year’s theme, “Creature Craze,” looks at three of Spielberg’s most beloved and popular films. “Jaws” and its chilling Amity Island tale will be shown tonight, followed by the adventure-packed “Jurassic Park” on Friday and the tear-jerker “E.T.” to wrap things up on Saturday.
The inaugural Sail-In Cinema was held in 2011 to mark the Toronto Port Authority’s centennial year. In 2013, more than 6,500 people and 90 boats joined in the festivities, a 350 per cent increase over the previous year. Sail-In Cinema is now a permanent fixture on Toronto’s summer calendar.
