After a three season run on STARZ, “Spartacus” came to its inevitably brutal end last year. But this September,Anchor Bay Entertainment is bringing Spartacus: The Complete Series to DVD and Blu-ray.
Springing from the mind of veteran genre writer, Steven S. DeKnight, “Spartacus” starred the late Andy Whitfield in the title role for the first season, before Liam McIntyre took over for seasons two and three. The series also starred Manu Bennett, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Katrina Law, all of whom went on to appear in “Arrow” on The CW. Lucy Lawless also co-starred in “Spartacus,” alongside John Hannah, Dustin Clare, Peter Mensah, Nick E. Tarabay, Dan Feuerriegel, Simon Merrells and Todd Lasance.

In this excerpt from the featurette, “2nd Unit: Trail of Blood,” the effects team behind “Spartacus” explains how they created the blood effects on the show, including some practical effects instead of the CGI blood spots.

Spartacus: The Complete Series will include all 39 episodes from the three seasons of “Spartacus” and the prequel series, “Gods of the Arena.” Some of the new bonus features for this set include spotlights on Liam McIntyre and John Hannah, and a featurette on scoring the series with composer Joseph LoDuca.
On Tuesday, September 16, Spartacus: The Complete Series will be released on Blu-ray and DVD.
