Gold Coast based company Willi Footwear has developed the new thongs that claim to solve a problem that plagues every Havaianas wearer from Sydney to Rio, – the thong “blow-out”.
Willi Footwear have patented “boomerang” plugs which are Y-shaped straps that they claim won’t pull through and detach from the sole, finding a solution to one of summer’s most annoying inevitabilities.
They’re also completely interchangeable, allowing for a number of different colour combinations. Having been granted the patent for their “boomerang” straps, the company have launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGoGo.com to raise $30,000 for production and distribution.
Willi Footwear says its aim is to get the product on the shelves of Australia’s leading retailers by summer “with a goal to have them available in the US Market and other countries around the world.” A donation of $25 will give you one pair of thongs and a pair of straps, plus free delivery in Australia, USA and Canada.
There are also package options available for retailers and the most serious donators can pledge up to $4,999 and will be treated to a weekend away with the owners of Willi Footwear on the Gold Coast, including a hotel stay on the beach, dinner and a helicopter ride. Plus 20 pairs of thongs of course. Willi Footwear have already raised $21,051 of their target with 25 days still to go.
