Tekken 7 has been announced at the Evo 2014 fighting game championships.
The game, developed by Namco Bandai, will also see the series sporting its best visuals to date, with it operating on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 4. Considering a major gripe many had with Tekken 6 was its underwhelming visuals, it’s good to see that Namco has taken note and will be stepping up its game when the series makes its debut on the PS4 and Xbox One.
Speaking of the game’s implementation of the Unreal 4 graphics engine, game director Katsuhiro Harada said: “With Unreal Engine 4, we could rapidly achieve visual quality expected on next-gen platform and go beyond it. Not only is Unreal Engine 4 powerful and easy to use, but it allows us to immediately bring Tekken 7 to any platform we desire.”
The teaser trailer focuses upon Kazumi Mishima, a character who has been overlooked in the series thus far but will make her debut in Tekken 7. Wife to Heihachi and mother to Kazuya, Kazumi will play a pivotal role in the game’s narrative, with game director Katsuhiro Harada stating that she was the first character to make contact with Devil. It’s rumored that, considering both Jin and Kazuya have the Devil gene, Kazumi will have the Devil gene, too, though this hasn’t been confirmed.
Namco Bandai is set to reveal more information about Tekken 7 on July 25th, at the developer’s panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.
