Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson just got promoted to Level 5 clearance: the star of the BBC series “White Queen” was just cast in a leading role in Mission: Impossible 5 opposite Tom Cruise, who will once again reprise his role as Ethan Hunt.
The role was reportedly highly coveted in Hollywood, and was rumored to have been offered to Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain before falling to Rebecca Ferguson.

In further Mission: Impossible 5 casting news, Deadline also reports that “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin is in talks to play the head of the C.I.A. in the fifth film in the franchise. Previous actors who co-starred or cameo’ed as government bigwigs in the Mission: Impossible franchise include Henry Czerny, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Fishburne and Tom Wilkinson. None of them appeared in more than a single film in the series.
Mission: Impossible 5 will be directed by Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher director and Edge of Tomorrow screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, who won an Oscar for writing the classic 1995 crime thriller The Usual Suspects. Scripting duties will be handled by Will Staples, who also wrote the hit video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
