The Omen Remake Gets a Remake

It’s hard to complain that nothing’s sacred when you’re writing about a remake of the a remake about the Antichrist. But it still seems odd that Platinum Dunes, Michael Bay’s horror remake-centric production company, has acquired the rights to do another movie based on Richard Donner’s 1976 horror classic The Omen, only eight years after the last remake of The Omen completely failed to jumpstart a new franchise (although it did make money: $119 million off of a $25 million budget).

20th Century Fox will work with Platinum Dunes on this second remake of The Omen, according to Bloody Disgusting. No director or writer or cast was mentioned, although given that the last remake of The Omen was released on June 6, 2006 (06-06-06), we imagine the marketing department will be urging them along to get this new remake in theaters by June 6, 2016… and hope that audiences forget about that last one.

In the meantime, this new The Omen will have to compete with “Damien,” a recently announced television series that will air on Lifetime and feature the Antichrist’s adventures as an adult. Former “The Walking Dead” showrunner Glen Mazzara is producing the series.
