Earlier this month, BBC and BBC America announced a 12 day world tour for the stars of “Doctor Who” that will include the first time that the incoming Twelfth Doctor, Peter Capaldi and his co-star, Jenna Coleman will appear together in the U.S. for an event in New York City this August. But as many fans noted, the BBC’s “Doctor Who” world tour is leaving out its traditional slot at Comic-Con International.
Today, the Unofficial San Diego Comic-Con blog has confirmed that BBC will not be putting on a “Doctor Who” panel at Comic-Con International next month. This will be the first time since 2010 that “Doctor Who” hasn’t had a panel at SDCC. In the last few years, “Doctor Who” has become one of the most popular draws at Comic-Con as it moved into the largest room, Hall H.

“Doctor Who” won’t be entirely absent at Comic-Con. BBC America will still have a booth on the show floor with “Doctor Who” merchandise. And considering that the eighth season of “Doctor Who” is premiering in August, there’s a good chance that a “Doctor Who” trailer may debut at the booth as well.
Still, this is a blow to Whovians who had hoped to see Capaldi and Coleman at this year’s Comic-Con. But if history is any indication, “Doctor Who” and its stars will eventually return to San Diego.
