The folks at Yacht Club Games are deadly serious about Shovel Knight. Not in terms of an uptight development philosophy, necessarily, but in terms of convincing you that an 8-bit sidescroller with an armored, shovel-wielding hero is the most legendary fantasy tale ever told. Once you watch the above launch trailer, I'm pretty sure you'll agree that it certainly feels like it is. You've got swagger, Shovel Knight.
The Kickstarted game is finally releasing tomorrow after a long and extended wait, and Yacht Club Games are doing everything in their power to assure fans that their patience will pay off. You can grab Shovel Knight on Wii U, 3DS, Steam, and GOG (as of this week), so get digging! And check out the below snippet from a recent press release if you're still not up to speed.
You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this land with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and quest for his lost beloved. But between Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress, and will pursue their mission at any cost!
Packed to the brim with content, Shovel Knight boasts several unique features on Nintendo platforms. Shovel Knight will include exclusive Miiverse functionality on Wii U, and the Nintendo 3DS version will feature both stereoscopic 3D and an exclusive Battle Arena mode using StreetPass.
“With Shovel Knight, Yacht Club Games is leading a new indie charge in the Nintendo eShop, strengthening an already great lineup of content,” said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America’s vice president of Licensing. Since its announcement in 2013, Shovel Knight’s polished game play and beautiful presentation have made it a worldwide phenomenon, garnering effusive praise from players and critics alike.
Oh, one more thing — you'll want to watch this older trailer too. The music is the stuff of legend.
