No Joke: Titanfall on PC Is Free to Play for 48 Hours

Procuring a list of positives about EA’s Origin service is a challenging task, but the publishing giant has just added a pretty impressive bullet point — something called “Game Time.” The program allows you to try an EA title on PC for 48 hours, at which point you can choose to buy it and retain any and all progress you made during the two-day period. The first Game Time title? Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall.

I actually had somewhat of a double-take when I read about this, as it’s one of the few ways EA can effectively pique my interest in the soon-to-be mega series. I’m no FPS junkie, but who can argue with free? The 48 hours are measured via continuous timer, mind you; it’s not as if you’re getting 48 hours of pure gameplay. Still, two days ought to be plenty of time to get your bearings, pilot some mechs, and decide if the Titan life is for you. I certainly look forward to learning this myself.

EA has yet to elaborate on which titles will join the Game Time program going forward, but you have to figure the possibilities are pretty endless if a crown jewel such as Titanfall was included. I was surprised to learn that Origin has actually done nice things before, delivering free games via an “On the House” promotion that at one time included Popcap’s strategy puzzler Peggle, and even survival horror shooter Dead Space.

Giving Origin a second chance may be tough for some, but with offers like these I’m willing to forgive and forget for the time being. See you on the battlefield!
