AMC is delaying its return to the world of “Breaking Bad.” But the network is doubling down on Saul Goodman.
According to AMC, “Better Call Saul” has been pushed back to an early 2015 premiere, as opposed to its original premiere that was scheduled to begin in November 2014. On top of that, AMC has also renewed “Better Call Saul” for a second season of 13 episodes, which is up from the ten episode order of the first season.
“Better Call Saul” follows the early years of Bob Odenkirk’s iconic “criminal lawyer,” Saul Goodman from “Breaking Bad.” Vince Gilligan is co-creating and co-showrunning the series with Peter Gould and Gilligan is also slated to direct the pilot episode of “Better Call Saul.”
Jonathan Banks will co-star in “Better Call Saul” as he reprises his role as Mike Ehrmantraut, Saul’s private investigator and one of the most popular characters from “Breaking Bad.” Newcomers to the cast include Michael McKean, Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian and Michael Mando.

In a statement, AMC’s President Charlie Collier said “Production on Better Call Saul is underway and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series and today we happily confirm that our initial Saul order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes.”
“When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of Breaking Bad, there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves,” continued Collier. “We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on Saul and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.”
