Development seems to be moving quickly on Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange movie. The upcoming film about a former surgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme recently hired director Scott Derrickson (Deliver Us From Evil) to bring Doctor Stephen Strange to life, casting rumors already abound linking such potential stars as Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto to the lead role, and now the screenplay is being rewritten by one of writers of Prometheus.
Let’s just hope that Doctor Strange turns out better than Prometheus.

Deadline reports that Jon Spaihts is being hired to rework an existing screenplay by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the writers of such notorious bombs as A Sound of Thunder, Sahara and the remake of Conan the Barbarian. (To their credit, those movies also had problems that extended far beyond their screenplays.) Spaihts is a rising star in Hollywood, having written not only Prometheus but also the upcoming remake of The Mummy and a film called Passengers which made the illustrious 2007 Black List of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood (Keanu Reeves is currently attached to that project).
No release date has yet been specified for Doctor Strange, but with a director on board, casting taking place and a new screenwriter polishing the project, it seems likely that Marvel Studios will make a formal announcement at Comic-Con 2014, if not sooner.
