Ever since the duo of Joss Whedon and Mark Ruffalo reignited the Hulk's big-screen prospects following Ang Lee and Louis Leterrier's under-whelming 2003 and 2008 films, we've been wondering if Marvel was going to get serious about unleashing the rampaging one in another solo vehicle.
Back in May, one-time TV Hulk Lou Ferrigno seemed pretty confident that Marvel had a new Hulk solo movie in their plans to roll out after the release of 2015's The Avengers: Age of Ultron. And now, no less an authority than Ruffalo himself is tangling hope in front of anxious Hulk fans.
Speaking with Digital Spy (then re-reported by Crave film site Cinema Blend), Ruffalo doesn't come right out and say he's prepping for a Hulk solo flick — but he sure seems optimistic that Marvel Studios might make it happen.
"I think they are, for the first time, entertaining the idea of it. When we did The Avengers, it was basically 'No!', and now, there is some consideration for it."
Ruffalo knows he's got to walk a thin line in addressing rumors like this, so he's quick to point out that "there's still nothing definitive, not even a skeletal version of what it would be."
OK, this could all be just an actor chumming the waters for a giant starring role (not to mention, a Hulk-sized payday), but we've got to think there's a reason that Ruffalo is so bullish on his chances of headlining a new Hulk film. And c'mon — you just know those Planet Hulk rumors are burning a hole in Marvel's pocket, despite Whedon's flat-out denial back in March.
