Three years after a Powers TV adaptation crashed and burned at FX, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming's tale of cops unraveling crimes in a world of superheroes is getting new life — a 10-episode season to debut on PlayStation Network this December.
As seen in the video above posted to Crave film site SuperHeroHype, Bendis showed up at Sony's E3 presentation in Los Angeles Monday to make the official announcement.
Bendis and Oeming will serve as executive producers on the project, while fellow comics veteran Charlie Huston (Moon Knight) will script and share showrunner duties with former "Falling Skies" head writer Remi Aubuchon.
PlayStation Plus members will be able to watch the first season free of charge on the video streaming service.
For the uninitiated, the Powers comic book series follows the adventures of Chicago homicide detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim as they work to solve cases in a city where super-powered heroes and villians are a way of life. And did we mention Walker has a secret past of his own as a former supe himself?
A pilot for a "Powers" series starring Jason Patric and Lucy Punch was shot for FX back in 2011, but concerns over that initial episode caused the network not to order the concept to series. FX maintained that they were still working on the idea, even bringing aboard Huston to work with Bendis on re-jiggering the series. However, FX ultimately gave up, allowing PlayStation to pick up the project.
Patric and Punch's contract options expired in 2012 and while new series leads were not announced Monday, it was expected other actors would be brought on-board for the new series.
