Here’s something that will have Game of Thrones fans salivating. George R.R. Martin, the author of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels that were adapted by HBO for its hugely popular series, is allowing fans of the series to appear in his next novel for $20,000. Those who cough up the cash can also choose the way in which their character dies.
Martin is offering up the opportunity via a crowdsourcing campaign, with the proceeds all going to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and the Food Depot in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The chance to be included in the next installment of A Song of Ice and Fire will be offered to top-tier donators, while those who contribute less money to the campaign being entered into a competition to join Martin on a helicopter ride through the wolf sanctuary.
Other rewards include a pair of tickets to the Game of Thrones season 5 premiere, George R.R. Martin’s worn hat and a breakfast with the man himself.
Whether or not the individual who pays out $20,000 to appear in the next novel will also appear in Game of Thrones remains to be seen, but if they make their death gruesome enough then we’d wager that HBO would want to include it, given the series’ track record of horrid deaths.
