After months of little to no info, Nintendo is finally cutting Tecmo Koei loose. We’re about to learn a lot more about Hyrule Warriors in the coming months, and not only will the game be at E3, but’s it’s already been assigned a release date of August 14th in Japan.
Yesterday we learned quite a bit of juicy info from a Famitsu report on the game, mainly that there will be a swath of playable characters, weapon choices, and play styles to choose from. Each weapon type will feel unique, and specific characters will specialize in certain weapon types. Impa, who’s been confirmed as playable and leads Hyrule’s Elite Guard this time around, wields a curved longsword, for example.
You can head to Siliconera for all the details on yesterday’s report, but today’s info is a bit more savory — screenshots! 27 of them to be exact, and you can find them in the gallery below. The game is looking better by the day, and though Famitsu’s report states that it’s about 70% complete, its August release date in Japan suggests that the largest development hurdles must already have been cleared.
Acclaimed Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma is said to have been “surprised” by how many playable characters Team Ninja and Tecmo Koei are including in the game, among other things. If the folks making Hyrule Warriors were able to shock and surprise Aonuma himself, I can only imagine how gamers will react when they finally get a chance to play.
