Earlier this year, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey won widespread acclaim for their one season stint on HBO’s crime anthology, “True Detective.” It’s been widely expected that HBO would go after other movie stars for the inevitable second season of “True Detective.” Now, the first star may finally be close to a deal.
Nerdist is reporting that Jessica Chastain has been offered the lead role of “True Detective” Season 2. Chastain is best known for her roles in Zero Dark Thirty, The Help and The Debt, which solidified her status as a leading film actress in Hollywood. “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto has previously hinted that the next season would focus on female leads and Chastain seems like she would be an ideal choice.
There are other reports that Brad Pitt may also be up for a lead in “True Detective” Season 2, but the source of those rumors doesn’t appear to be very credible. It should be noted that Nerdist is only claiming that Chastain has been offered the role. Either way, it’s not a done deal yet.
HBO hasn’t formally announced the second season of “True Detective” yet, but it will likely premiere in 2015.
