Gerry Duggan Hulks Out In August

Mark Waid recently guided Marvel’s Indestructible Hulk into a new relaunch ahead of the Original Sin event series. However, Waid will be stepping aside after Hulk # 4 as a new writer comes on board.

Newsarama broke the story that Gerry Duggan has signed on as the new Hulk writer as of issue 5, with series artist Mark Bagley remaining on the title with Duggan.

While speaking with Newsarama, Duggan revealed details about his first Hulk arc, “The Omega Hulk.” “[‘The Omega Hulk’] will see a great bit of action between the Hulk and everyone who shares his name. I like to describe it as the ‘Armor Wars’ for gamma-irradiated people in the Marvel Universe, explained Duggan. “It’s going to run eight to ten issues, and at the end of it there will be a new status quo for many of the characters.”

“I promise by the end of ‘The Omega Hulk,’ you will have seen not only everyone who has the word ‘hulk’ in their name but also their alter egos,” added Duggan. “Part of this is going right back to the beginning; I think the thing that always concerned Banner, and a lot of other people in the Marvel Universe, is the proliferation of gamma-irradiated powers to people and gamma weapons. Hulk’s aim in ‘The Omega Hulk’ is to take some of them off the board; we will see if he’s successful.”

Duggan also stated that he will remain on Deadpool and Nova in addition to his stint on Hulk.

“I’m staying on those two books,” said Duggan.”Actually I’m going to be scaling back my non-comics work to focus more on comics. Also, the year’s not over yet and there are still a few more surprises. But Hulk is a dream job, and I consider myself very lucky.”
