Tony Hawk Says There’s a “Chance” of a New Pro Skater This Generation

If you grew up in the late 90s and early 2000s (or even played videogames at all), there’s a good chance you enjoyed some Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater at one point or another. According to his recent AMA on Reddit, Mr. Hawk himself says there’s a “chance” we’ll get new Tony Hawk titles sometime this console generation.

There is a CHANCE of something in the future for newer consoles. In the meanwhile, we are releasing TH Shred Sessions for mobile devices (iOS, Android, tablets) soon-ish. I’m going rogue with information at this point so I better shut up now.

I’ll be honest, I never thought a guy as hardcore as Tony Hawk would consider spilling the beans on an upcoming videogame “going rogue.” Still, the fact that there may be a future Pro Skater title in the works is excellent news, especially for existing fans of the series.

The aforementioned TH Shred Sessions actually looks quite enjoyable, and despite its mobile nature, Hawk played a surprisingly hands-on role. He looked over most of the game’s tricks frame-by-frame, fixed animations where needed, and even got as nitty-gritty as correcting on-board foot positioning.

Another Redditor asked Hawk if he enjoyed EA’s Skate series, to which he replied.

I honestly rarely played them. I appreciated that skateboarding had come so far as a videogame genre that there was viable competition in the field though. And any game that had a Pixies song in the soundtrack is okay with me.

Later, Mr. Hawk even revealed which Tony Hawk title is his all-time favorite.

My favorite is THPS2 because it put skateboarding on the map as a videogame genre and many people have said it is the reason they started skating at all.

Now that’s awesome. It’s tough not to admire Hawk’s dedication to bettering and growing his sport.

It’s not clear who would develop a new Tony Hawk title — especially since Neversoft was recently absorbed by Infinity Ward — but perhaps the Call of Duty developer could take a crack at the series, with old-school THPS developers taking the lead. As long as Tony Hawk himself continues to be involved with each new game’s creation, then I’ll continue playing.
