Canadians Have Big Presence At Cannes Film Festival

Some of Canada’s most buzz-worthy directors are revealing their latest projects at the Cannes Film Festival, including David Cronenberg, Xavier Dolan, and Atom Egoyan.

There are 18 films vying for the coveted Palme d’Or prize – Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars,” Egoyan’s drama “The Captive” and Dolan’s “Mommy” are all competing. Stéphane Lafleur (“Tu dors Nicole”), Jean-Claude Lauzon (“Léolo”), Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre (“Jutra”), Rémi St-Michel (“Petit Frère”), and Kaouther Ben Hania (“Challat of Tunis”) are also at Cannes. Actor Ryan Gosling is also making his directorial debut at the Fest with his project “Lost River.”

The Cannes Film Fest runs until May 25th.

Filmmaker Sofia Coppola, director Jane Campion, and actors Willem Dafoe and Gael Garcia Bernale are all on the judging panel.
