In light of its third consecutive disappointing financial report, Nintendo has chosen a pretty fantastic time to reveal some new Pokémon games. In a short teaser video on the official Pokémon YouTube channel, it was announced that remakes of the 2003 classics Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire are coming to 3DS, with a worldwide release in November of 2014. The new games are titled Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. My inner child just had an accident in his pants.
The video doesn't share a whole lot of info, aside from some very stylish box art and the promise of an "epic new adventure" in a "dramatic new world." Why the word "new" is being so heavily emphasized is beyond me, since these are remakes… or are they? No one actually stated that, though it does seem pretty heavily implied. Whatever the case, perhaps there's going to be some new or innovative element that sets these apart from the games they're based on, beyond just a fresh coat of paint. Personally, I'd love to be able to traverse additonal Pokémon regions upon completing Hoenn's main story (ala Heartgold and SoulSilver, except even more globally expansive), but that may be asking too much.
Regardless, check out the above teaser and box art, and do your best to forget Nintendo's woeful financial standing for the time being. As seems to be the norm this generation, it looks as though 3DS will have to bail out the floundering Japanese giant one more time.
