We all know developing a property — particularly, a property you think has the potential to be a blockbuster — does not come cheap.
Even so, you might still be taken aback by how much Activision is ready to put behind the buzzed-about sci-fi open-world adventure game Destiny.
As reported by Crave gaming site Destructoid, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick told attendees at L.A.’s Milken conference last week that his company is ready to invest $500 million in creating, marketing and supporting Bungie’s project.
The company also confirmed to Reuters that that money will be spend over a decade — meaning Activision not only sees Destiny as one of the company’s potential tentpole games, but as a juggernaut franchise they intend to exploit for years to come.
We’ll all see if it was worth the investment when Activision rolls out Destiny for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3 on September 9.
