Here are the Real Photos that Inspired 50s Pin-Up Girl Cartoons

The real-life photographs that were the inspiration for the most famous cartoon pin-up girl drawings of the 1950s have been revealed for the first time.

The drawings, made by artist Gil Elvgren, were all based upon real-life women, albeit with the proportions of their body being shaped in such a way that puts some of today’s Photoshopped images of models to shame.

The photographs were unearthed by Nerve.com, and can all be viewed in the gallery below alongside their cartoon counterparts. Some of them are similar, while others are worlds apart.

More details on Gil Elvgren’s work can be found on his website.
