Fox Will Air Grease Live In 2015

Last year, NBC found unexpected ratings gold with its live staging of The Sound of Music. While NBC is following that project with Peter Pan later this year, Fox is jumping into the live musical game in 2015.

Fox has announced that Grease Live will be broadcast in 2015, based upon the classic 1971 musical written by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs. Grease was immortalized in the 1978 film of the same name starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John; which is currently the highest grossing musical of all time.

In a brief statement, Fox’s Shana C. Waterman said “Greese‘s iconic characters and addictive songs make it the perfect fit for Fox, and we’re going to give it the kind of star power and production quality to make every Sandy, Danny, Rizzo and Kenickie out there want to get up and sing along.”

The new staging of Grease will reportedly retain all of the most popular songs from the musical, with “a young ensemble cast” stepping into the iconic roles. Paramount Television is producing Grease Live, but neither the creative team handling the adaptation nor any of the cast members have been announced.
