This is the year of pirates on TV. “Black Sails” came and went on STARZ, but now it’s time for NBC to jump into the game with “Crossbones.”
Created by Neil Cross (“Luther”), “Crossbones” stars the legendary John Malkovich as Captain Edward Teach, a pirate who was better known to the world at large as Blackbeard.
“Crossbones” is going to be one of NBC’s primary shows this summer, and the network has finally gotten around to releasing a full trailer for the ten episode first season. As you’ll notice below, the trailer tends to focus on Tom Lowe (Richard Coyle), a physician who is taken prisoner by Blackbeard and forced to help him decode some important information. But Lowe may be more than he seems.
In addition to Malkovich and Coyle, “Crossbones” stars Claire Foy, Tracy Ifeachor, David Hoflin, Ezra Buzzington, Kevin Ryan, Henry Hereford and Emilien De Falco.
“Crossbones” will premiere on NBC on Friday, May 30.
