One of the few things we know about Star Wars: Episode VII is that the old gang will return: Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and Harrison Ford as Han Solo. We later learned that R2D2 would make a comeback along with them. But what about his royal fuzziness, Chewbacca? WHERE THE HELL IS CHEWBACCA YOU NERF HERDING SONS OF oh wait here he is. He’ll be back in Star Wars: Episode VII, and he’s still going to be played by Peter Mayhew according to Hollywood Reporter.
It’s been a hard road for Chewbacca since the release of the last Star Wars movie. Sure, he won that MTV Lifetime Achievement Award (below), but he’s been decidedly absent from the multiplex for decades. Fortunately, reports of his death have been greatly exaggerated.
Peter Mayhew, who made his feature film debut with 1977’s Star Wars, has been reprising his role on and off for television and for sick children for many years. Fans of the franchise the world over are probably rejoicing that he’s back. The temptation to cast someone else who can fit the iconic costume has been resisted, and the world can sleep peacefully once again.
