Just when you thought it was safe to put the Flappy Bird era to bed, the mindless app game may be ready for a comeback.
Damn, that was quick…
In a Rolling Stone interview with Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen (recounted by Crave’s gaming site Destructoid), the Vietnamese programmer says now that the furor over his crazy addictive little game is calming down, he may eventually re-release the game to app stores everywhere.
Nguyen said his abrupt decision to pull the game earlier this year was fueled in part by concern over how addictive the goofy diversion was becoming. Nguyen said he received countless emails from parents about how many hours their kids were spending on the game as well as reports of people losing their jobs because of Flappy Bird Addiction (that sounds like a condition that needs an acronym, so we’re just gonna call it FBA from now on).
Even though the game isn’t currently available anymore, it’s still generating tens of thousands of dollars for Nguyen, who quit his day job and is now developing more games.
As for the future of his flagship creation, Nguyen said he might bring the game back to app stores — this time, with a warning about the dangers of spending too much time guiding that stupid bird through all those stupid pipes.
