Previously on “Banshee”:

Episode 2.07 “Ways to Bury a Man”

Up until recently, Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thomsen) was the biggest threat to the quality of life in Banshee. Then Lucas Hood (Antony Starr) showed up and as Deputy Brock Lotus (Matt Servitto) pointed out, he brought a shit storm with him. Now Hood has made it his mission to destroy Proctor. In the end, ridding Banshee of the drug running, assault weapons hoarding, stripper pimping Proctor is probably a good thing. But in the process the citizens of Banshee are still getting hurt, just the same.

Sheriff Hood and his deputies know coming at Proctor by the book doesn’t work. But Hood’s “cowboy” approach, as ADA Medding calls it, to dealing with Proctor’s Neo-Nazi skinhead drug runners has devastating consequences for Deputy Emmett Yawners (Demetrius Grosse) when the group retaliates by assaulting his pregnant wife.

Relying on both his skills as a thief and lawman, Hood sneaks into Proctor’s home and discovers a hidden armory stocked with everything from automatic weapons to a medieval morning star.  He and his team then raid the place with a warrant based on a tip from stripper and confidential informant, Juliet. Hood takes pleasure in arresting Proctor, as it’s a big step towards dethroning Banshee’s criminal king.

But what of the Emmett, who visits the skinheads in their holding cells with payback on his mind and one of Proctor’s maces in his hand? He beats each man to within an inch of his life and Hood, Siobhan (Trieste Kelly Dunn) and Brock scramble to create a cover story. But with his wife recovering in the hospital after an attack which cost the life on their unborn child, the damage is done and Emmett surrenders his badge. Which begs the question: is it worth going after Proctor considering the collateral damage involved?

Hood still seems to think so, but we’ll have to wait see where Siobhan and Brock fall after Emmett’s apparent resignation. There’s also the matter of Rebecca’s (Lili Simmons) allegiances in the Hood/Proctor war. She catches the sheriff snooping around in Proctor’s basement, but we’re led to believe she doesn’t say anything. Yet when her uncle wonders aloud about who Hood’s informant is, Rebecca says it’s Juliet. So far it’s unclear exactly where Rebecca’s head is at. We watch her sitting at her uncle’s desk, imagining what it must be like to have that kind of power and we also see her not shying away when he ogles her as she’s getting undressed. But there’s still the trauma of Jason’s murder to consider and her affections for the sheriff, which might explain why she kept her mouth shut.

While Hood’s assault on Proctor’s empire yields mixed results, at least Carrie (Ivana Milicevic) is catching a break at home. When she shows up with the ill-gotten money for Max’s medication, Gordon (Rus Blackwell) invites her to stay for dinner. The Hopewell family is still in pieces, but at least they’re moving closer together. However, it may not last very long now that Job (Hoon Lee) has located Rabbit thanks to Agent Racine’s files,

A couple of random musings on “Evil for Evil:”

•  Rebecca is almost never not wearing lingerie

•  Still taking bets on when Hood will bed the ADA

•  The writers just keep upping the “eww” factor with Rebecca and Kai

•  Now that Brock knows Siobhan and Hood have a thing, will he try to sway Emmett wit his suspicions?

•  Where in the world is Nola Longshadow?

•  Will Kai uncover the truth about why Jason meant so much to Hood?

If there’s one complaint to be lodged about “Banshee’s” second season it’s that the show seemed to take a sudden sharp turn away from the heat that Agent Racine brought on Hood to Hood’s sudden, impassioned vendetta against Kai Proctor. At the same time, it looks like the Racine storyline might pay dividends now that Job’s found Rabbit thanks to the deceased FBI agent’s hard work. No matter how you look at it, the Sheriff Hood shit storm isn’t ready to blow out of town, just yet. Rather it’s just a matter of which victim it will claim next.
