‘Reaper’ Creators Join Marvel’s ‘Agent Carter’ At ABC

Shortly before the debut of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” last September, word broke that Marvel was developing “Agent Carter” for ABC based upon Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter character from Captain America: The First Avenger and the Agent Carter Marvel One-Shot short film that was included with Iron Man 3 on home video.

While “Agent Carter” doesn’t appear to have been formally given a greenlight at this point, Deadline is reporting that Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas have joined “Agent Carter” as executive producers. Butters and Fazekas are best known for creating the series “Reaper” for The CW. Butters and Fazekas are currently working on the ABC series, “Resurrection” and their previous collaborations include “Hawaii Five-0,” “Terra Nova” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

Marvel and ABC have yet to officially announce that “Agent Carter” is in the works, but Neal McDonough acknowledged the project during our interview with him late last year. McDonough also expressed his willingness to reprise his role as Dum Dum Dugan on the potential “Agent Carter” TV series.

It’s not currently known if Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter if the project goes forward. However, Atwell has expressed enthusiasm for the potential “Agent Carter” TV series, so the chances of her return are pretty good.

With “Agent Carter” progressing at ABC and four Marvel superhero series coming to Netflix beginning in 2015, Marvel appears to be dramatically increasing its presence on television. Judging from “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Agent Carter,” Marvel seems to be focusing its chances at ABC on shows that the studio believes could have crossover appeal and interest from ABC’s large female audience while leaving the superheroes to Netflix.

If “Agent Carter” gets a pilot commitment from ABC, it may be in contention for the 2014-2015 TV season.
