Oh, high school. So many of us have fond memories of the friendships, the extra-curricular activities and the romances. But, what you might fail to realize is that, high school is a pretty rough time. In fact, one of the movies that best depicts the trials and tribulations of high school is Carrie (coming to Blu-ray and DVD on January 14)… Well, minus the whole supernatural murder stuff.
In honor of that bloodied high school prom queen, we’d like to share our top 10 worst things about high school with you.

1. Gym Class
What could be worse than being forced to wear the most unflattering outfit of all time? Being made to do physical activity while wearing that outfit in front of all of your teenage peers. When you think about it, it is crazy that P.E. isn’t just called torture class.

2. Puberty
The most awkward time of your life. You’re developing in all sorts of weird ways (funky smells, weird noises, awkward protuberances) and it all seems to happen in the middle of science class. There is nothing worse than farting while your voice cracks as you attempt to tell your teacher how many electrons are in the outer shell of Lithium.

3. Crushes
These things don’t go away (as many hormone/alcohol-fueled college students will tell you), but crushes in high school seem to be some of the weirdest. Think about it, you’ve never had romantic thoughts about anyone and then all of the sudden you can’t get Rachel from homeroom out of your head. It’s like some sort of virus has infected you.

4. Pep Rallies
Welcome to the beginning of a lifetime of indoctrination. Plus, these things just tend to be really, really loud.

5. Homework
High school is the time when you get the most homework. In middle school and below, you get very little homework and it’s pretty easy. In college, you get a few tests or essays, but no day-to-day homework. And when you finally get a job, you barely ever have to do anything at home (depending on your line of work).

6. Mean Girls
Yes, there is a Lindsey Lohan movie about this particular phenomenon and it’s pretty spot-on. There are always a group of mean girls in every high school that exploit the fact that they have small waists and symmetrical faces. They are known to enjoy terrorizing other girls and making unsuspecting goofy guys tremble.

7. Fights
High school students are easily converted into two year olds as soon as they have the opportunity to brawl. Never is there a time when so many fights occur for absolutely no reason at all.

8. Sex
High school is all about bad sex. It’s nobody’s fault. They just don’t know any better.

9. Group Dates
This new phenomenon makes it even harder for high school guys and girls to demonstrate their feelings for each other because they are constantly surrounded a group of 5 or 6 other people. Another awesome way to make things stay as awkward as possible!

10. Waking Up So Goddamn Early
Depending on your line of work, this might not have changed for you when you got out of high school, but, suffice to say, waking up that early is never fun.
