Game Over: Campbell Brown Sacked Over LA Fight

The Gold Coast Suns and Campbell Brown have parted ways after the veteran’s latest undisciplined act which left teammate Steven May with a broken jaw outside of a Los Angeles nightclub.

The 30-year-old landed a punch to May’s face outside of the Bootsy Bellows nightclub when the drunken teammate attempted to enter a private post-concert party hosted by pop icon Rihanna.

Brown accepted his 205-game AFL career was over after a second international off-field incident in three seasons involving members of the football club.

“I’m really disappointed, it is not the way any player wants to finish their career,” Brown said at the club’s press conference on Wednesday.

“But I think the process was thorough and very fair, I have been more than happy with the way the process has happened.

“I am obviously really disappointed with the way it has finished-up but I take full responsibility for my actions on the night.

“Actions have consequences and clearly they have helped finish my career early.”

Footage Emerges Of Campbell Brown Incident

May returned to Australia last week and had two plates inserted into his jaw to mend the fracture.

Brown’s latest run in comes two years after he was stood down from a leadership position with the Suns when he and then teammate Mav Weller were detained by local police in Thailand.

“I don’t think I have a problem. There have been a couple of incidents over a 12 or 13 year career. Clearly I’ve overstepped the mark on occasion and this incident was one of them,” Brown said.

“Steven and I are friends. We’ve apologised to each other, I’ve checked in on him to see how he’s going pre and post-surgery and we will continue to be friends.

“It was a spur of the moment mistake that if I could go back and change I would, but you can’t do that in life.”

Player lists submitted by each club ahead of the 2014 season were completed last week, ruling out Brown from joining another team ahead of next season.
