Back in 2011, The CW tried to bite into the zombie craze with “Awakening;” which was not ordered to series. But the network is about to try again.
Just days after the CW revealed plans for “Hourman,” Deadline is reporting that Chris Roberson and Mike Allred’s “iZombe” is being developed as a TV series by the network. Originally published by DC Comics’ Vertigo line in 2010, “iZombie” followed Gwendolyn Price, a young zombie who could pass as an ordinary human as long as she ate at least one brain per month.
For the proposed “iZombie” TV series, Gwen will go from being a gravedigger to a medical student who uses her access to the morgue to get the brains that she needs. Because Gwen receives the memories of each brain she consumes, she uses her power to solve homicide cases alongside “her medical examiner boss and a police detective.”
“Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas is co-writing the “iZombie” pilot with Diane Ruggiero, who previously collaborated with Thomas on the Veronica Mars movie.
With the advent of “iZombie,” the previously mentioned “Hourman” and the potential “Flash” series, there are now three additional DC-related shows that may join “Arrow” on the CW next fall. Outside of the CW, DC also has the Detective James Gordon Batman-less prequel series, “Gotham” at Fox and a “Constantine” project at NBC.
