Back in 2006, “Charmed” wrapped up its eight season run on The WB. But next fall, the Halliwell sisters may cast a new spell on CBS.
According to Vulture, CBS is developing a reboot of “Charmed” from “Party of Five” co-creator Chris Keyser and Sydney Sidner. As with the original series, the new “Charmed” would focus on “a sisterhood of witches who use their powers for good.”
Created by Constance M. Burge and executive produced by Aaron Spelling, the original “Charmed” was one of the biggest hits for The WB and it continues to be one of the most popular shows on Netflix. Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty were the first trio of Halliwelll sisters, Phoebe, Piper and Prue. When Doherty left the series, she was replaced by Rose McGowan as Paige Matthews, the half-sister of the Halliwellls. Collectively, the sisters were said to have the Power of Three, which made them extremely powerful witches who used their abilities to fight dark forces.
“Nip/Tuck” star Julian McMahon first broke out on “Charmed” as the half-demon, Cole Turner and future “Big Bang Theory” leading lady Kaley Cuoco also starred in the final season as Billie Jenkins.
For most of the past decade, CBS has stayed away from genre series, but the recent success of “American Horror Story: Coven,” “The Walking Dead” and “Under The Dome” appear to have swayed the network to revisit that. If “Charmed” goes forward at CBS, it would be the first major reboot of a WB series.
