There’s no more polarizing team in professional sports than the New York Yankees. Either you love the fact that their legacy and giant payroll allow them to stride into the postseason most years like a juggernaut — or you hate ’em. Hate ’em, hate ’em, hate ’em…
But regardless of your personal feelings, it’s hard not to love — or at the very least, respect — the 19-year career of Yankee closer Mariano Rivera. He’s a 13-time All-Star, a 5-time World Series champion and will retire after this weekend with a career ERA of 2.21, the lowest mark in a century for any pitcher who’s thrown over 1,000 innings.
He’s been a dominant hurler for two decades, so it’s not hard to explain why his final appearance on the mound at Yankee Stadium last night drew so much emotion from the Bronx faithful. And Vine was a-buzz with Mo love.
