Last Sunday’s episode of “Copper” ended with the characters reacting to the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. But Lincoln isn’t the only casualty here.
BBC America has abruptly canceled “Copper” after two seasons. This Sunday’s second season finale will now serve as a series finale.
In a statement, BBC America GM Perry Simon wrote “After 23 episodes, with Lincoln dead and the nation starting to heal, it seems a fitting moment to conclude this American story. The opportunity to work with [executive producers] Tom Fontana, Barry Levinson, Will Rokos, Thomas Kelly and the extraordinary cast and crew on this journey is one that we are extremely proud of. Their vision to re-tell the immigrant experience through the melting pot of New York City was an original and fresh idea that melded well with the essence of BBC America’s programming.”
The last episode of “Copper” finds Kevin Corcoran, Robert Moorehouse and Matthew Freeman dealing with the aftermath of Lincoln’s death as tensions once again arise in Five Points. If the episode wasn’t planned to be the series finale, there’s no telling how much closure to expect from the ending.
“Copper” concludes this Sunday on BBC America.
