“Yeah B***!” – Jesse Pinkman
Last Sunday’s episode of “Breaking Bad” brought in 6.4 million viewers, shattering the previous record for the show. And as the show heads towards the finish line, that record may fall again. Consequently, AMC has found a new way to capitalize on the surge of viewers.
While AMC only has two episodes remaining of its signature series, there will be a little more “Breaking Bad” before the end. On Twitter, “Breaking Bad” producer Peter Gould said, “I checked & it’s official. Last [two] Breaking Bad eps are 75 minutes each w/commercials. Set your DVRS accordingly. Better still, watch live!”
Presumably this decision was also made for creative reasons to add more scenes to each episode. Extending one-hour dramas is also a growing trend on cable. “Sons of Anarchy” frequently runs longer episodes on FX and even “Game of Thrones” on HBO had a few minutes added to every episode this season.
If the legacy of Walter White means that we get longer episodes of our favorite series, then I’m all for it. The final season of “Breaking Bad” continues this Sunday on AMC.
