Noel Gallagher accepted the ‘Icon’ award at the GQ Awards 2013 yesterday, and used his time onstage to have a pop at the assembled members of the Conservative Party.
The awards ceremony included guests such as Mayor of London Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary William Hague, who was at the ceremony to present the writer of the year award to Charles Moore, for his biography on Margaret Thatcher.
Taking to the stage, Gallagher said to the assembled crowd of actors, musicians and politicians who really should have had somewhere else to be: “Welcome to the Tory party conference.
“Its nice to see the Foreign Secretary here while there’s shit going on all over the world he should be sorting out.”
To give you a feel of the complete redundancy of the ceremony, Boris Johnson was crowned Politician of the Year and Piers Morgan the TV Personality of the Year.
