‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4 Adds Joseph Gatt & Dean-Charles Chapman

There have been two confirmed additions to the cast of “Game of Thrones” this week. And while one of the characters is unconfirmed, the other is a major recast of a previously seen member of the Lannister family.

Malta Today is reporting that Joseph Gatt has been signed for “Game of Thrones” Season 4. HBO later acknowledged that report but declined to say whom Gatt would play in the show. So far, speculation about Gatt’s role has centered around Styr, Magnar of Thenn; one of the war chiefs in Mance Rayder’s Wilding army. Since Styr is described in George R.R. Martin’s novel as tall, imposing and hairless, Gatt seems to fit the role perfectly.

Gatt’s most recent roles came in Star Trek Into Darkness, “Banshee” and “Breaking In.” He has also appeared in “Chuck,” Thor and the unaired “Wonder Woman” pilot.

The other casting news comes from Winter Is Coming, which reports that Dean-Charles Chapman is taking over the role of Prince Tommen Baratheon from Callum Wharry, who last appeared on the show during the penultimate episode of season 2. The recast may indicate that Joffrey’s little brother may have a much bigger role to play in the upcoming season.

Chapman appeared in two episodes of “Game of Thrones’ Season 3 as the doomed Martyn Lannister. Chapman has also co-starred in “The White Queen,” “The Revolting World of Stanley Brown” and the upcoming film Before I Go To Sleep.

“Game of Thrones” Season 4 will premiere on HBO in Spring 2014.
