Gamescom 2013 kicked off yesterday, with Sony, Microsoft and other big-name companies revealing more information about some of our most anticipated games, along with throwing a few brand new games into the mix, too.
With that being said, here are the top 5 games that we saw on day one of Gamescom.
5. The Division
Ubisoft made the big announcement at Gamescom that they will be bringing The Division to the PC, along with dropping a new trailer for the tactical shooter that shows off its unique co-op gameplay, which allows players to take control of drones via a smartphone or tablet before joining forces with their friends.
4. Murasaki Baby
The PlayStation Vita was shown a lot of love by Sony in their press conference, and out of the wave of indie games they displayed, Ovosonico’s Murasaki Baby was the most eye-catching. The Vita has struggled to carve out its own identity since its release, but Murasaki Baby shows that they’re certainly on the right track when it comes to courting those who like their games quirky and intriguing, e.g. me.
3. The Sims 4
The Sims 4 was the worst kept secret prior to its announcement at Gamescom, with the internet abuzz with speculation that EA would let the cat out of the bag at the event. They did, of course, and revealed to us a few snippets of gameplay that showed off the game’s overhauled customization system, allowing players to build their homes faster and more efficiently, along with an emotions system for the game’s Sims that allowed them to be effected, both positively and negatively, by the actions of other Sims and their surroundings.
2. Project Spark
Lots of footage of Project Spark was released at Gamescom, and from what we’ve seen it’s definitely the most ambitious game in the Xbox One launch line-up. The community montage trailer, which is viewable above, showcases a handful of the neat things that players will be able to create. As a huge fan of the LittleBigPlanet series, I have to admit that Microsoft might have a much more comprehensive and intuitive equivalent on their hands here.
1. Titanfall
Wow. This Titanfall gameplay video blew the roof off of Gamescom, giving us a glimpse of what might just be the next big FPS franchise. Players run across walls, jetpack through the sky before seamlessly leaping into mechs in order to dish out even more damage. It’s fast-paced, chaotic action that, if it lives up to expectations, will be a breath of fresh air in its genre.
