The Brisbane Lions have pulled the plug on the coaching career of club champion Michael Voss, sacked in the midst of what has been an encouraging season.
Voss received the axe with three games remaining in the AFL home and away season with Brisbane still in the hunt for a finals spot after recovering from a poor start to the season to win five of their past eight games.
Voss stood down from his role as coach after being told by club officials that he would not be receiving a contract extension on Tuesday afternoon.
“I don’t know how I feel. Tomorrow I will wake up and don’t go to work and that’s all I know,” Voss told Channel Seven on Tuesday night.
“I have loved more than anything else, and the club is dear to me, but I have gone every day and there has been something to improve in our players. That is what I will miss the most.”

The Lions young list have recovered to an 8-11 overall record despite injuries to significant players in Jonathon Brown, Daniel Rich and Simon Black.
Sydney premiership coach Paul Roos is expected to be the club’s number one target to succeed Voss.
The former Brownlow medallist won 43 of 109 games at the helm of Brisbane over a four year span.
