The Tyrell family had a major role to play in “Game of Thrones’ Season 3. And the family’s patriarch will be added to the mix during the upcoming fourth season.
On his livejournal account, George R.R. Martin revealed that veteran actor, Roger Ashton-Griffiths will play Mace Tyrell, the father of Margaery (Natalie Dormer) and Loras Tyrell (Finn Jones), as well as the son of the outspoken Lady Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg); who had nothing good to say about her son during the third season. Presumably Mace will be coming to King’s Landing for the marriage between Margaery and King Joffrey (Jack Gleeson).
Like Dormer, Ashton-Griffiths previously appeared on “The Tudors,” in addition to his roles in Gangs of New York, Brazil, A Knight’s Tale, The Brothers Grimm and The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. Ashton-Griffiths is also portraying legendary director Alfred Hitchcock in the upcoming film, Grace of Monaco.
“Game of Thrones” Season 4 is expected to premiere on HBO in Spring 2014.
