Aussie Cyclist Starts Tour De France Celebrations Early

The notorious Tour de France mountain stage, Alpe d’Huez, is known for breaking cyclists across 21 hairpin bends. For Australian participant Adam Hansen the stage provided him an opportunity to sip at a beer and take in the countryside’s amazing sights.

Hansen was given a beer at turn 17, the Dutch Corner- a Tour de France party destination filled with DJs, bars and food.

The beer didn’t do Hansen any harm- he finished in a middle of the pack position in 59th of 175 finishers, and beat out previous Australian tour winner Cadel Evans and past stage winners Daniel Martin and Rui Costa as well.

“Who said I did not have fun today????? Love the Tour de Francr (sic),”Hansen posted via Twitter post-stage with the above photo.

The 32-year-old Queenslander, currently ranked 65th overall, followed it up by tweeting, “On his hotlap up Alpe d’huez” busted again…. hope the sports directors dont see this…”

Apparently becoming a fan favourite, Hansen said after a recent mountain stage, “On all the climbs they (spectators) give me cans of Coke & scream go harder!!!”

Hansen sadly isn’t going to win this year’s Tour, however currently leader, Britain’s Chris Froome, is looking a certainty to become just the English winner of the cycling marathon and the first African-born winner of the sport’s most celebrated race.
