When Marvel’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” was first announced, it was widely expected that Joss Whedon would add Summer Glau to the series in some capacity. And while Glau will be on a comic book series this fall, it won’t be on a Marvel show.
The CW has announced that Glau will recur on “Arrow” during its upcoming second season. Glau will make her first appearance in the season premiere as Isabel Rochev, the Vice President of Acquisitions at Stellmoor International, a company that is attempting to take over Queen Consolidated. Rochev was previously introduced in the Green Arrow comics as a villainous character who was in charge of Queen Industries. On “Arrow,” Rochev is described as “enigmatically beautiful” and “dangerous” and her name appears in Robert Queen’s notebook of men and women who “failed” Starling City.
Glau is best known for playing River Tam in Whedon’s “Firefly” and Serenity, as well as Cameron in “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” Glau has also appeared in “Angel,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “CSI,” “Chuck,” “Alphas,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Hawaii Five-0.”
The last time that Glau was a series regular on television, she appeared in NBC’s short-lived superhero series, “The Cape;” which shared some thematic elements with “Arrow.” Although it should be said that “Arrow” is a much better show than “The Cape.”
“Arrow” Season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, October 9 on the CW.
