In Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho, Norman Bates infamously said that “A boy’s best friend is his mother.”
Now, A&E is using that same line to promote “Bates Motel,” the upcoming prequel TV series that reimagines Norman’s early years in a contemporary setting. Freddie Highmore stars as Norman, with Vera Farmiga as his mother, Norma.
With the debut under two months away, A&E has released a new “Bates Motel” teaser trailer that highlights the seemingly inappropriate relationship between Norman and his mother. And as we know from Psycho, only terrible and tragic things can come of it.
Also starring in “Bates Motel” is Max Thieriot as Norma’s older son, Dylan who is seemingly normal compared to his half brother, Norman. And Dylan is reportedly one of the few characters who is unnerved by Norma and Norman’s interactions. Sheriff Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell) is also suspicious of the Bates family and it’s likely just a matter of time before murder ensues.
If the teaser wasn’t enough for you, here’s a longer trailer and behind-the-scenes video for “Bates Motel” that was previously released.
“Bates Motel” opens for business on Monday, March 18 on A&E.
