Medal of Honor No More

Okay, maybe that headline is a little sensational. The Medal of Honor brand still exists – it’s just being shelved for the time being because Medal of Honor: Warfighter did not perform well enough, both critically and commercially.

During a company earnings call today, EA announced that they are pulling the Medal of Honor brand “out of the rotation,” chalking the game up to an “obvious miss.”

“The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers,” said EA COO Peter Moore. “Critics were polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than it deserved. This one is behind us now. We are taking Medal of Honor out of the rotation and have a plan to bring year-over-year continuity to our shooter offerings.”

What Moore does not cite is that Warfighter could have been received poorly because it did not have a coherent campaign or attempt to do anything outside the military shooter comfort zone. But hey, what do I know?

So for the time being, Medal of Honor is officially benched. But if you can’t get enough of your military shooters, know that EA still has Battlefield proper and Bad Company to satiate your hunger.
