Ever since Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill announced their departure from “Doctor Who,” speculation has run rampant about who will be the Doctor’s newest companion. Today, that question has been answered.
BBC and “Doctor Who” showrunner Steven Moffat have announced that Jenna-Louise Coleman will be joining the crew of the TARDIS in this year’s “Doctor Who” Christmas special, but they were quiet about who she will play or how she will meet Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor.
“It’s not often the Doctor meets someone who can talk even faster than he does, but it’s about to happen,” said Moffat. “Jenna is going to lead him his merriest dance yet. And that’s all you’re getting for now. Who she’s playing, how the Doctor meets her, and even where he finds her, are all part of one of the biggest mysteries the Time Lord ever encounters. Even by the Doctor’s standards, this isn’t your usual boy meets girl.”
“It always seems impossible when you start casting these parts,” continued Moffat. “But when we saw Matt and Jenna together we knew we had our girl, She’s funny and clever and exactly mad enough to step on board the TARDIS.”
Coleman added “I’m beyond excited, I can’t wait to get cracking; working alongside Matt I know is going to be enormous fun and a huge adventure.”
In a departure, Coleman will be the first female actress since Billie Piper to become the Doctor’s new companion without having previously guest starred on the series. However, that doesn’t mean that Coleman is a newcomer. She made her feature film debut last year in “Captain America: The First Avenger” and also starred in the British TV series “Emmerdale” and “Waterloo Road,” as well as the upcoming “Titanic” TV miniserles.

Moffat confirmed that Amy and Rory will make their final appearance in the fifth episode of the seventh season; which will bring back the Weeping Angels. Moffat ominously added that “Not everyone gets out alive [and] I mean it this time.”
