Earlier this fall, HBO gave the greenlight for Aaron Sorkin’s return to TV with, “More As This Story Develops,” a newsroom based drama. And while the final name of the series was undecided for several months, HBO has revealed that it will be called “The Newsroom.”
“The Newsroom” takes place at the fictional 24 hours news network and follows a news anchor played by Jeff Daniels. Emily Mortimer costars alongside Alison Pill, John Gallagher, Jr, Josh Pence, Dev Patel, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn and Sam Waterston.
Last week, Deadline reported that Jane Fonda has joined “The Newsroom” on a recurring basis, making it her first regular TV series role. Fonda will portray media mogul Leona Lansing, the CEO of the cable network’s parent company and a character not unlike Fonda’s ex-husband, Ted Turner; who founded CNN.
On television, Sorkin is best known for the short lived “Sports Night” on ABC and the seven season run of “The West Wing” on NBC. Sorkin also created “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” in addition to writing “The Social Network,” “The American President,” “A Few Good Men,” “Charlie Wilson’s War” and “Moneyball.”
“The Newsroom” will debut in 2012 on HBO with a ten episode first season.
