The New York Film Critics Circle has just announced their 2011 awards live via Twitter, which is exciting since they’re the first awards announced, marking the official start of Oscar Season (our favorite time of the year), and kinda lame because… Twitter? So much for grandeur…
The Artist, Tree of Life and Moneyball have all taken home multiple awards from the NYFCC, which cements their Oscar potential but doesn’t guarantee them anything. There’s no major frontrunner for Best Picture yet. In fact, the only award that seems to be a sure thing right now – with several potential contenders like War Horse and The Iron Lady admittedly yet to be released – is Albert Brooks for Best Supporting Actor in Drive. Many critics and pundits predicted that this would be Brooks’s year when the film was released in September, and his NYFCC win will likely be the first of many awards for the star in the months to come, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves, shall we? Here are the winners for the New York Film Critics Circle Awards 2011.
