Next season on NBC, Bryan Fuller may have two series on the network.
In addition to Fuller’s proposed Hannibal Lecter series, NBC has officially ordered a pilot episode for “The Munsters” only two weeks after Fuller turned in his script to the network.
The original version of “The Munsters” ran on CBS for two seasons starting in 1964. Created by Allan Burns and Chris Hayward, the show followed a Frankenstein monster named Herman Munster, who lived blissfully with his vampire wife, Lily, their werewolf son, Eddie, Lily’s father, Grandpa Sam Dracula and Lily’s niece, Marilyn; a beautiful and seemingly ordinary girl.
Although “The Munsters” lasted only a short time on TV, it found an audience in syndication and was revived as a series of TV movies, one theatrical film and even a second live action series, “The Munsters Today;” which ran for three seasons during the ’80s.
For the current “Munsters” reboot, NBC commissioned Fuller to pen an update that combined aspects of “True Blood” and “Modern Family.” NBC reportedly envisions “The Munsters” as a potential summer or event series.
Fuller is best known for creating quirky comedy series, “Pushing Daisies,” “Dead Like Me” and “Wonderfalls” in addition to his memorable stints on “Heroes,” “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” and “Star Trek: Voyager.” As mentioned previously, Fuller’s “Hannibal” is also in contention this pilot season and both of Fuller’s new series could end up happening simultaneously.
