Do you still love Pitch Black? Vin Diesel and writer/director David Twohy sure hope so, because they’re working on another sequel and updating their fans on Vin Diesel’s Facebook page. In his most recent video post, Diesel answered some questions along with Twohy (who also wrote The Fugitive, and wrote and directed The Arrival and The Perfect Getaway) about how hardcore the film will be, particularly in comparison to the lackluster PG-13 sequel The Chronicles of Riddick, which many believe derailed the potential franchise.
Among the statements made:
David Twohy: “The movie itself is going to be a lot like Pitch Black because of the money involved… because we want to maintain our R-rating…”
Vin Diesel: “Which is a big deal.”
David Twohy: “At any cost. It costs us a lot. […] So it’ll be probably a little tougher than, say, Chronicles [of Riddick] in that regard… We are going to be lean and we’re going to do it quick, and it’s going to be a cool movie, I can tell you that.”
David Twohy also commented on a Facebook request for ‘hot girls’ to seduce Vin Diesel, promising ‘seduction’ in the upcoming film, but remaining coy about it.
We here at Crave Online would like to get excited about a new Riddick movie, but this still feels like speculation. Diesel and Twohy have wanted to do another film in the series for years, and while it’s encouraging to hear that they’re willing to make a cheaper film in order to return to the franchise’s darker roots we still haven’t heard anything about a start date or casting yet, meaning that the actual production is still not a sure thing.
Fingers crossed.
Crave Online will return with more Riddick news as it kills us with a teacup.
