Everybody’s gotta eat – but DoorDash seems to think it can discriminate against who can get food delivered based on people’s professions. Take, for example, Dr. Olivia Snow, a tech researcher at UCLA and NYU and an adjunct college professor in New York City. She claims that DoorDash has shuttered her account because she happens to moonlight as a dominatrix.
Three times a week, she does eight-hour shifts that involve punishing people for whom pain and humiliation are pleasurable. While, yes, she wears dominatrix garb like fishnets and skin-tight lingerie during her side hustle, she says she’s never greeted a delivery person in her naughty unmentionables. (And if she did, can you imagine a male DoorDasher in the world who would object?)
And yet, she received a message from DoorDash saying, “Your account has been deactivated. We wanted to let you know that our system has detected some abnormal behavior coming from this account that may be in violation of our Terms of Service. As a result, your order submission was not successful, your credit card was not charged, and your DoorDash account has been deactivated. If you feel this was done in error, please contact Support.”
Whether or not she contacted support, we don’t know, but she did take to Twitter to broadcast this injustice.
“love too [sic] be a wh0re,” she captioned a screenshot of the deactivation message from DoorDash. “(this is the second time this has happened btw)”

Snow claims other apps like Airbnb, PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp also ban sex workers.
“It’s dehumanizing,” Snow told The New York Post. “Sex workers bend over backwards to conceal our identities in order to [be treated fairly by mainstream society]. And these big tech companies use special software and AI (artificial intelligence) to sniff us out and block us from their services.”
The New York Post reached out to DoorDash and received this unhelpful answer in response: “While we have not been able to verify the posting online, we have reached out to this individual for more information and are actively investigating,” a representative said. “Users are welcome on the DoorDash platform, regardless of a person’s profession or choice of work, and are required to follow our terms of service.”
The bad news is, Snow probably won’t be getting a burger and fries from DoorDash anytime soon. The good news is that, just like in the sex worker world, there’s plenty of competition. We hear UberEats will ride for anyone. Ahem.
